Join us for a special evening of music, art, and remembrance in celebration of the exhibition Librería Donceles and in honor of Día de Muertos. Rooted in Aztec traditions that honor the cycles of life and death, Día de Muertos invites us to celebrate memory, connection, and continuity across generations.
The program will feature a musical performance by Librería Donceles artist Pablo Helguera, joined by his nephew Alan Snow, associate concertmaster of the Minnesota Orchestra, Centro Tyrone Guzman's Wise Elders Choir, and others. Throughout the evening, enjoy literary and poetry readings, with special music performances that bring language and story to life.
Altarista Monica Vega will unveil a newly created ofrenda for Día de Muertos, one of three ofrendas — at WAM, Centro Tyrone Guzman, and at the Capitol— to honor this moment in the season when the living and their ancestors meet, over shared rituals of memory, offering, and love. The community ofrenda at WAM will be on view from Wednesday, October 29 - Sunday, November 9, 2025. For more information about the full Día de Muertos programming hosted by Centro, visit their website.
Free and open to the public. Hot chocolate and pan de muerto will be provided.
Presented in partnership with Centro Tyrone Guzman. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
Pablo Helguera
His work as an educator has usually intersected his interest as an artist, making his work often reflects on issues of interpretation, dialogue, and the role of contemporary culture in a global reality. This intersection is best exemplified in his project, “The School of Panamerican Unrest”, a nomadic think-tank that physically crossed the continent by car from Anchorage, Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, making 40 stops in between. Covering almost 20,000 miles, it is considered one of the most extensive public art projects on record as well as a pioneering work for the new generation of artworks regarded under the area of socially engaged art.
