One day each year people all over the world visit local museums and galleries to look at art—slowly. Head to the museum to investigate artworks and soak in the inspirational feeling of being surrounded by art. This year's Slow Art Day at WAM includes interventions in the galleries and a video screening from Target Studio artists in residence.

Busy as each moment seems, caring for the needs of others can slow time down. Join Anna Marie Shogren along with artists Emmett Ramstad, Theresa Madaus, and Molly Parker Stuart in a conversation around self care, making art, and living life as a caregiver. Whether giving care via employment, or caring for a parent or young child, join us, accompanied or alone, for a day out, a change of pace, a chance to see art, and exchange experiences with other caregivers.

11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. | PENG WU / NAP STATIONS

Sleep may be the last human resistance to the never-enough demand for increased production, which pervades the art world.Studies show that the average time a person spends looking at a piece of art in a museum is between 15 and 30 seconds. During Slow Art Day, artist Peng Wu invites you to take a long nap in the museum gallery in front of an artwork at a designated napping station. You will see something different with your eyes closed.

11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. | MOLLY PARKER STUART / AN ACT OF PURE AND UNRELENTING BEAUTY
We have all known love, hopeful and terrifying. We have all been suspended over the rocks, caught in a state of falling. "An Act of Pure and Unrelenting Beauty" is a video that uses a 450GB dataset and made-from-scratch digital techniques to speak directly to the body, holding us on the edge of this overwhelmingly beautiful state. Parker Stuart used data from sources of transphobia and transmisogyny with the intention of turning this hate into love. The 6-minute video will screen continuously throughout Slow Art Day.
