Join us for a party to celebrate the opening of WAM’s fall exhibition, Urban Cadence. The evening includes small bites by WaZoBia and a cash bar. Featuring a special live performance by Afrofusion musician Obi Original.

About the exhibition

Urban Cadence tells the multifaceted stories of two urban environments—Lagos, Nigeria and Johannesburg, South Africa—as experienced through the artistic expressions of over sixty photographs and videos by nine award-winning and internationally recognized contemporary African artists. African cities are the fastest growing in the world, and these two cities have experienced this growth in diverse yet fascinating ways: the first as a megacity, the latter as a center of industrial development. The street scenes in this exhibition represent the complex narratives of these urban sites: tales of migration, labor, desperation, success, hope, and imagination among others.

About the musician

Obiora Obikwelu, otherwise known as Obi Original, is a Nigerian producer & artist. Being surrounded by music all his life, he finds inspiration from all genres, yet fiercely believes that Africa is the home of music, causing him to form Ozone Creations. The thought of creating a home for afrofusion within the United States has been a dream for him and he is ecstatic to show the world what he and others are capable of creating.

Ticket proceeds keep the Weisman’s exhibitions and programs going strong. We appreciate your support!
