Target Studio: Incubator Project

When a person's equilibrium recovers from disruption, an imperceptible change remains in the minute involuntary swaying motions of their body. Can this sway become a creative tool in choreographers’ hands? What worlds can be created from the innate sway of a person? #1 of 30 is a two-hour iterative choreographic and sculptural study by Pramila Vasudevan and Aniccha Arts, inspired by the kinesiological studies of Dr. Thomas Stoffregen of the School of Kinesiology at the University of Minnesota.

The Aniccha Arts team includes Maxwell Hoaglund (sculptor), Sam Johnson (movement collaborator), Valerie Oliveiro (movement collaborator), Lela Pierce (movement collaborator), Jasmine Kar Tang (dramaturg), Chitra Vairavan (movement collaborator), and Pramila Vasudevan (lead artist, movement collaborator). #1 of 30 is an Incubator Project at WAM's Target Studio for Creative Collaboration. The studio is a platform that supports ambitious collaborations between artists and researchers at the University of Minnesota, making university resources available to the Twin Cities’ artists, and the creative powers of artists available to academic researchers.

This project is supported in part by the Mid-Career Professional Development Grant from Forecast Public Art awarded to Pramila Vasudevan.
