Journey to the Cosmic Womb Workshop Series: Wellness + Collage
Join artists Vie Boheme and Nell Pierce for a hands-on workshop inspired by Journey to the Cosmic Womb by JooYoung Choi. Through yoga, reflection, and artmaking, participants will explore themes of self discovery, identity, and personal storytelling found within Choi's work.
The workshop will begin with a guided yoga and journaling session from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m., led by Vie Boheme in the galleries, inviting participants to connect with themes from Journey to the Cosmic Womb and reflect on their own experiences.
Building on this foundation, artist Nell Pierce will lead a collage-making workshop from 12 - 1:30 p.m., adapted from their Color Memory course, exploring both the historical and contemporary uses of pigments. Participants will leave with their own artwork and new perspectives on the creative possibilities of color, memory, and personal narrative.
Support for this program is provided by Art Bridges. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through an Operating Support grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. Additional general operating support is generously provided by Ameriprise Financial.
Vie Boheme is a Minneapolis-based multimodal artist whose work spans dance, music, performance, creative wellness and writing. A Motown native shaped by creative roots in Pittsburgh and Minneapolis, she is known for integrating singing and dancing in unison, collapsing the boundary between sound and movement through a fusion of soul, funk, jazz, R&B, and pop. Her career includes performing, choreographing, and collaborating with artists and institutions such as Stokley Williams, Camille A. Brown & Dancers, TU Dance, the Guthrie Theater, and The Children’s Theatre, as well as touring internationally through a U.S. Embassy cultural exchange. Trained at Point Park University and The Ailey School, Vie has also opened for international music acts Little Dragon, Bilal and J*Davey, delivered a TEDxMinneapolis talk on the value of performing arts titled "Is Performing Art Worth the Struggle?." Vie is also a yoga and wellness guide where her embodied practice extends into her CoreKinetics Yoga methodology.

Nell Pierce is a collage artist, acrylic painter, muralist and teaching artist who sees art as a powerful tool for telling both individual and collective stories. They were raised in California and Maine and fell in love with the artist and organizing community in Minneapolis in 2014. They’ve since resided on this beautiful and occupied Dakota homeland, Mni Sota Makoce, surrounded by people who teach them to live in questions about how to be in right relationship with this place as a European-American.
They’ve been a facilitator and teacher for over 15 years, working with organizations like Telling My Story and the Speaking Out Collective to support people of all ages in schools, community centers, prisons, and other settings to connect to themselves and feel agency in creating their own narratives through visual art and theater. In 2024, they started teaching art classes for adults out of their studio.
In their personal practice, they create paintings and collages (primarily portraits) on commission. They are currently working on a multi-year series, Q’llage, that explores how the strategies that support them and their queer community to stay true to themselves are mirrored in the natural world — drawing from their own experience and interviews with people in their LGBTQ2IA+ community.
