March 21, 2022: As of today, masks are welcome, but not required for visitors and staff at the Weisman Art Museum (WAM) and WAM Shop, in accordance with University of Minnesota policy and current public health guidance from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
We continue to have masks available at the front desk for any who want them as a matter of personal protection. We will continue to respect and honor the choices of all individuals who feel more comfortable wearing a face covering, are immunocompromised, or who are taking additional steps to protect their families or others. The following commonsense measures are still advised: Stay home if you’re feeling ill, wash your hands frequently, and get tested if you begin to show symptoms of COVID-19.
Stay home if you’re feeling sick.
Take advantage of the hand sanitizer available throughout the museum.
There is ample room in the galleries and public areas of WAM to allow a safe distance from others. Visitors will also find hand sanitizer stations available throughout the museum and are encouraged to use them. At this time, in-person public programs are being held inside the museum once again. Please note, with the warmer months, guided tours of the public art on campus will resume by request, but in-person guided tours through the galleries at WAM are currently only available for UMN classes.
We will continue to monitor public health guidance from the CDC, University leadership, and the Minnesota Department of Health, and WAM’s visitor and staff protocols will be updated as needed in the months ahead. Stay in the know by signing up for WAM’s e-news, and follow the museum on social media for the latest news and information.
It’s a wonderful time to explore the museum—to discover fresh art and ideas, and reacquaint yourself with much-loved favorites. Several new exhibitions are now on view at WAM: B.J.O. Nordfeldt: American Internationalist, Foundling: 100 Daysand The Nature of Shoreham Yards. Never-before-seen work, including a number of new acquisitions, are on view in the Davis permanent collection gallery. As always, admission to the Weisman is free.

While WAM is now open to the general public, our staff and partnering artists continue to develop programming to engage audiences and build community online.
