PHOTO NATION: Photography in the United States is offered in conjunction and partnership with Associate Professor Jennifer Marshall’s University of Minnesota Art History course of the same name. The exhibition presents photographs from the Weisman Art Museum’s collection that showcase the development of photography in the United States. It explores the rapid evolution of photography from the nineteenth century to the present, as both a form of fine art and as a social tool. Viewers are invited to contemplate photography’s significant role in developing a national identity, and follow its quest in becoming a “legitimate” art form in the eyes of critics.
