Jim Denomie expresses his tribal heritage and Native identity through humorous and critical depictions of United States history. A Minnesota artist, his paintings address colonization, assimilation, white washing, and other violences that the Native population has suffered at the hands of Western European colonizers. Denomie will discuss his art practice as part of a series of Indigenous artists’ talks through the Department of American Indian Studies.
