The Campaign for the Lyndel I. King Museum Director Endowment

For 84 years, WAM has delivered provocative and thoughtful art experiences to both the University and Twin Cities communities. Lyndel King has built a legacy during her 40 year tenure at WAM.

From the very beginning, Lyndel promoted the need for a world-class art museum on its campus. – Architect Frank Gehry

WAM has been the beneficiary of Lyndel King’s visionary leadership since 1981. It is in her honor that WAM seeks to establish the Lyndel I. King Director Endowment. This endowment honors and recognizes Lyndel’s transformative legacy, while ensuring our ability to attract a talented and inspiring leader to steer WAM into the future.

WAM is committed to making the arts accessible and approachable. With free admission, more than 85,000 people per year visit the museum, many of them University students, allowing WAM to play a critical role in shaping and inspiring the next generation of art lovers and philanthropists. It is our view of the future that drives WAM forward and fuels an ambitious campaign to create the Lyndel I. King Museum Director Endowment.

With your strategic support to establish a $3 million Lyndel I. King Museum Director Endowment of the Weisman Art Museum, world-class museum leadership will lead WAM into the future as boldly as it has been led by Director King.

In joining our peers at other major university museums, creating endowed leadership positions enables us to attract the very best in the field and provide the resources needed to assert creative leadership.

Establishing this level of support at WAM will permanently solidify our stature as one of the top university museums in the country. The Lyndel I. King Museum Director Endowment will inspire future generations to demonstrate the same kind of bold mettle and keen sense for opportunity that characterize Lyndel King.
