WAM student staff offer a warm welcome to visitors, from information at the front desk to assistance in the galleries

Arts experiences are a powerful part of any campus experience. From undergraduate to advanced degrees and across all fields of study, every student's experience is nourished by access to the arts.

In May 2025, we announced that WAM’s Colleagues Advisory Board would match all gifts up to $15,000 to support Student Engagement programs at the museum. In response, WAM supporters generously gave $21,000! This $36,000 of generous investment will underwrite this year’s core student programs, nurturing long-term relationships between students and the Weisman. To those who gave, making this possible - thank you!

As we start the 2025-26 school year, the Student Engagement Fund is already making so much possible:

  • Student Tour Guides: Three new student tour guides have been trained and are ready to lead inquiry-based tours in the galleries. This unique employment role offers students the opportunity to develop facilitation and public speaking skills, while honing their understanding of visual inquiry.

  • WAM Collective: This year’s WAM Collective is up and running with five members. The WAM Collective is the student leadership group here at WAM; their role is to create and facilitate programs, digital content, and activities that spotlight the student voice within the museum. Among their programs this year will be four study nights during midterms and finals. Every program the WAM Collective hosts serves as an entry point for other students who may not yet know they are art lovers.

  • Graduate Assistant: WAM’s Public Engagement and Learning Graduate Assistant is continuing with the museum for a second year. They are developing a capstone project that will include tours and interpretive materials designed for adults with cognitive disabilities, including those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

Through these student programs, the Weisman fosters a sense of place and community for all students. Thank you to WAM’s community of support for generously giving to sustain and strengthen our work with students!
