Additional Details

Join us for a conversation with artist-in-residence Amoke Kubat, an artist, weaver, and sacred doll maker who uses her art to hold a position of wellness in an America sick with inequality and inequity. In 2010, she began developing her Art of Mothering workshops, which became the foundation of Yo Mama’s House: a cooperative for women who are artists, mothers, activists, and healers in North Minneapolis.

Get a peek inside Yo Mama’s House at Amoke’s installation—which involves woven pieces, sacred dolls, texts, and other works crafted by Yo Mama’s House mothers—which will be active in the Riverview Gallery on Saturday and Sunday, November 9 – 10, from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Amoke will be at the museum all-day on Saturday, and will unveil Yo Mama's Watering (W)hole Playboard, where she'll survey visitors about their opinions on water. Amoke’s collaborator Shanai Matteson will lead a block printing activity for visitors as part of the installation.
