As part of their annual Recruitment Week, the Creative Writing Program holds a reading by Minnesota writers and alumni of the MFA program who have recently published their first book. This year's reading will feature three alumni: Ryo Yamaguchi, a poet (Refusal of Suitors); Andria Williams, a novelist (The Longest Night); and Kathleen Glasgow, a poet/novelist (Girl in Pieces).

Ryo Yamaguchi

About the Author

Ryo Yamaguchi is the author of The Refusal of Suitors (Noemi Press, 2015). His poetry has appeared in journals such as Denver Quarterly, Gulf Coast, and Bennington Review, and his book reviews and other critical writings can be found in outlets such as Michigan Quarterly Review, AGNI, and the Boston Review. Andrea Williams

About the Author

A native of northern California, where her parents were public-school teachers, Andria Williams attended UC-Berkeley (B.A. English) and the University of Minnesota (M.F.A. – Creative Writing).

She and her husband, an active-duty naval officer, have three children ages 14, 12, and 8. They have been stationed most recently in Virginia, Illinois, California, and Colorado.

Andria is an editor for Wrath-Bearing Tree literary journal. She also runs the Military Spouse Book Review blog, which promotes the writing of women veterans and military spouses and publishes book reviews and essays. THE LONGEST NIGHT is her first novel.

Kathleen Glasgow
