VIBE:
Wear your favorite go-to athleisure dress with an asymmetrical sleeve and your most outlandish shoes if you want to fit in. Also, don’t try too hard and don’t look too good and don’t try to fit in. Actually, just be your cool art loving self. It will make sense when you get there.
WHY WE'LL BE THERE:
Future Developments has been an ongoing organically curated exhibition that David Peterson has put together as he feels. There have been numerous iterations of the show, exhibiting 15 artists in total, two of which David Peterson has yet to meet in person. As sort of a nebular entity, the series includes surprises, guest, appearances, and Saturday happy hours. Check out the finale!

VIBE:
The TuckUnder Projects are located in a cozy South Minneapolis home and garage, it’s the art exhibition equivalent of being invited over to your neighbor's house a few blocks over for dinner because you learned you were both interested non-functional ceramics.
WHY WE'LL BE THERE:
The TuckUnder Projects turns every part of their home into small gallery spaces. Check behind the sink, under your feet, and in your hair. There’s art everywhere. This exhibition will feature the artists; Lex Thompson, Presley Martin, Chad Rutter, Julia Helen Rice, Meena Manalvedhekar, Reed Owen, and Halad Szeeman. Also, they usually have snacks (donation based).

Sundance Film Festival 2016 Short Film Tour
Time: Friday & Saturday at 7:00 pm, Sunday at 5:00 pm
Date: August 26th through 28th

VIBE:
This program is 95 min. long screening of eight selected shorts from the Sundance Film Festival. I went to this program two years ago and I remember leaving after 3 hours (the entire program was about 3.5 hours long, but I didn’t know that) and being emotionally destroyed from the intensely packed clips. I would recommend bringing tissue and plan on ordering food.
WHY WE'LL BE THERE:
If you didn’t get a chance to attend the real Sundance Film Festival, now is your chance. Also, it’s freezing in the theater and way too hot out here.

Love, SooVAC: A Celebration of 15 Years of Visual Art
Time: 5:00 to 9:00 pm

Location: SooVAC, 2909 S Bryant Ave, Ste. 101, Minneapolis, MN 55408
VIBE:
Soovac is turning 15 and they are celebrating with an a exhibition of postcards. They’ve invited all of the artists they’ve worked with over the years to create an artwork on a postcard and whatever is returned will make up the exhibition. They’ve got a line up of booze and non-booze related sponsors ( Bryant Lake Bowl, AVIV 613 Vodka, Fulton Beer, Cobra Verde, Bad Weather Brewing Company, Minnesota Food Truck Association, and Thomas Printworks) and a couple of food trucks (MN Nice Cream and Moral Omnivore). Sounds like a party.
WHY WE'LL BE THERE:
The premise of the show sounds pretty fun, but it’s seems to be more of a celebration of the work that has been put on over the years at Soovac. If you’re not already supporting the arts, go and support people supporting the arts.

Staged Conversation #4 (the world was flat)

Location: Porch Gallery, 3306 Park Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55407
VIBE:
It’s literally a porch. The Porch Gallery was started this year by recent UMN MFA grad Mark Schoening. Mark and his wife Dawn transplanted to the Twin Cities from Boston and have been using their East Coast connections to import up and coming Boston artists to the good ole’ MidWest.
WHY WE'LL BE THERE:
There is always fresh work to see and you get to hang out on a patio, so you don’t even have to go outside to smoke. Nicholas Wells just finished an MFA in ceramics from the U in 2016 and we are excited to see what he installs in the big window (How much is that puppy in the window?). Come hang out with the post-post grads.

Transplanting Cityscapes
Time: 7:00 to 10:00 pm

Location: White Page, 3400 Cedar Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55407
VIBE:
The White Page is a small gallery in Powderhorn where the tattooed cyclist run wild (don’t worry you can buy their temporary tattoo online if you are not into the permanent). The gallery offers a short residency program with an exhibition as the culmination of the work produced there. This exhibition gestures to humans and their metaphorical and physical involvement in ecosystems.
WHY WE'LL BE THERE:
The White Page is showing us what’s fresh and cool and it’s always worth checking out. The artist, Carolina Borja, studied art Mexican Folk Art in San Diego and now works out of Mexico City. She interested in cultural clashes and collisions. Come to the clash dance.

Brick x Brick
Time: 7:00 to 9:00 pm

Location: The Minnesota Museum of American Art, 141 East 4th Street, Saint Paul, MN 55101
VIBE:
This opening is happening at the Project Space in Lowertown. Wear a gingham button down, khaki pants, and pretend you’ve been paying attention to where the coolest new Lowertown bar is. If you have been paying attention, share you knowledge with those of us who never leave Minneapolis.
WHY WE'LL BE THERE:
Brick by Brick is an exhibition exploring the construction of a city, through its buildings and their impact on the social landscape. Carolyn Swiszcz is going to be in it (you may recognize her from a past MAEP exhibition), featuring one of her beautiful St. Paul landscape paintings. I’m excited to see the Project Space connect to the buildings and architecture around it, rather than being a floating white box.

Summer Music and Movies: Living on Video: Bruise Violet plus Big Cats and Man With a Movie Camera
Time: 7:00 pm
Date: August 22nd
Location: Loring Park
VIBE:
Bruise Violet is self described as “Sugar, Spice, and a Kick in the Teeth”, combine that with a silent avant-garde documentary about everyday soviet life and you get a commonplace punch in the face.
WHY WE'LL BE THERE:
The Walker puts on series of music plus cinema in the park every summer and it’s a great tradition, plus it’s free. Bring a picnic, hang out, and don’t forget your choice of insect repellent to skip the Zika. It’s worse than the kind of artistic punch in the face we’re talking about.
