PAST EXHIBITION
The Youth/Dhallinyarada
July 13, 2013 - February 9, 2014

Photographer Mohamud Mumin’s The Youth/Dhallinyarada is a documentary project that profiles thirteen young Somali men living in Minnesota who are actively and positively engaged in their community. The project highlights the contributions these young men are making to Minnesota and the United States, their adopted homeland. On view in WAM’s Edith Carlson Gallery, The Youth/Dhallinyarada features larger than life, black and white photographic portraits of the thirteen men, as well as a multimedia piece in which the subjects share their journey to Minnesota and the conflict they feel in trying to find their place in the community.

The Weisman worked with Mumin and his collaborators to bring The Youth/Dhallinyarada to the museum. Reaching out to its partners in the Minnesota Somali community such as student group Ka Joog, relevant departments at the University such as the Immigration History Center, and Twin Cities-based institutions such as the American Refugee Committee and the public schools, the Weisman is proud to offer not only this remarkable exhibition but also the public forum it calls for.

Generous support for the exhibition provided by the Marbrook Foundation.
