Welcome to the 2017-2018 UMN School Year

Welcome back to campus folks! While you are gearing up for the start of classes and the hectic school schedule stop by WAM for some incredible art and friendly faces. The museum is the perfect calming atmosphere for studying, relaxing, or just hanging out with your pals.

Is there a better way to get into the swing of the school year than by attending a giant art party?

WAM-O-RAMA

WAM-O-RAMA is a great opportunity to celebrate making it through the first week of classes.

For those of you who have yet to experience WAM-O-RAMA, it is a collaborative night full of art, music, and camaraderie. Mark your calendars for September 8. The event kicks off at 6 p.m. with Bohemian Press screen printing T-shirts, and you will not want to be late. The galleries will be open for tours and meandering and all this art will be accompanied by some bumpin’ tunes. It’s not every weekend that there is a free concert at your campus art museum. Radio K is DJ-ing and performances will include Early Eyes, DJ Tiiiiiiiiiip, and Dwynell Roland. This isn’t a night you’ll want to miss, but it is a night you’ll be able to remember with the help of all the pictures you can take at the photo booth.

COLLECTIVE APPLICATION

Looking for a chance to get involved with the museum? Just can’t get enough of all this cool art?  The WAM Collective, the museum’s student group, is now accepting applications for fall 2017 so you are in luck!

But what does the Collective do?

Mainly, the Collective focuses on getting students into the museum. We are the student voice of and for the museum. We believe that having a museum on campus is an incredible asset and want to create a welcoming environment for students. The Collective meets once a week on Tuesdays. During the meetings we will plan events, meet with professionals in the art field and taking field trips. This is an incredible opportunity to engage with the art and museum community regardless of your major.

The Collective hosts events for the student body throughout the school year including WAM-O-RAMA, Bring Your Own Business Card, the Design Fashion Showcase, and Study Nights once a month.

Don't miss this opportunity! Applications are due September 13, 2017.

STUDY NIGHTS

Did someone say study nights? You heard me correctly. If you don’t have the time to be a part of the Collective, you still have the opportunity to hang out with us once a month on Wednesday evenings. WAM hosts study nights for students to grind out all that homework surrounded by art. The Riverview gallery provides a nice space for focusing or making new friends if you’d rather procrastinate a little bit. Study Night is always accompanied by music via Radio K and coffee, of course!! Get all the deets over on the WAM Collective Facebook page

WEDNESDAYS AT WAM WITH MISFIT COFFEE

Fuel up and recharge at the Weisman with a delicious cold brew coffee on Nitro from local coffee shop Misfit Coffee! Every Wednesday during the fall semester Misfit will be stationed inside the museum from 10-2:00 p.m. serving up delicious and unique caffeinated concoctions. Stay up to date by checking out WAM's Facebook page.
